Surface Dressing Works DPS

Live

Framework Description

The Surface Dressing Works DPS is run by Argyll and Bute Council to appoint contractors and suppliers for surface dressing on its road network. Surface dressing applies a protective layer to existing roads to extend their life and improve skid resistance. The DPS runs from 2024 to 28 February 2034, is not split into lots, and accepts new suppliers while open.

Context & Use Case

The council uses it for surface dressing programmes across its road network, issuing requirements to admitted suppliers as schemes come forward. Because it runs for ten years, contractors can join once and compete for work across many seasons, rather than waiting for a fixed framework to be re-let, and the council can keep adding qualified firms.

Who Can Apply

Surface dressing contractors, material suppliers and equipment providers can apply to join while the DPS is open, up to 28 February 2034. Firms able to mobilise to Argyll and Bute's remote and island areas within the surface dressing season will be best placed.

Buyer Benefits

The council gets a ready pool of qualified contractors for a seasonal, weather-dependent activity, and can add new suppliers as the market changes. Competition for each requirement supports value for money on a treatment that delays full resurfacing. Admitted firms can bid scheme by scheme, so the council is not tied to one contractor.

Next Steps

Read the Argyll and Bute Council notice on Find a Tender (031228-2023) and the DPS selection criteria. Apply with evidence of surface dressing experience, plant, health and safety and traffic management competence, and material quality. Once admitted, watch for requirements ahead of each summer season and respond promptly.
