Framework Description
De-icing Salt and Associated Products/Services (reference 220_24) is an ESPO multi-supplier framework for winter road salt and de-icing products on a national basis. It runs from 14 May 2024 to 30 April 2028 with no extension. Five lots cover bulk brown salt, white marine salt, pure dried vacuum (PDV) salt, bagged salt by national direct supply, and other de-icing products. ESPO let it under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, and no new suppliers can join.
Context & Use Case
Highway authorities use the framework to stock salt barns before winter, while schools, hospitals and other public sites order bagged salt for paths and car parks. Call-offs are made by direct award or further competition. Timing matters: orders are usually placed before the gritting season, and resupply during cold spells needs dependable delivery.

Who Can Apply
Suits salt producers, importers and distributors of bulk and bagged de-icing products. Applications for this framework are closed, so suppliers not appointed cannot join until ESPO re-tenders it, likely around 30 April 2028.
