Waste Management Services

Live

Framework Description

KCS Procurement Services' Waste Management Services framework is a national agreement running until 9 April 2029. It covers general waste and recycling, clinical waste, confidential and high-security waste, textile recycling, hazardous waste, waste disposal authority services and a total waste management service across seven lots, with consultancy support. Applications for this agreement are closed (it is not a dynamic purchasing system).

Context & Use Case

Councils, NHS trusts, housing providers and schools use it to manage every waste stream they produce, from everyday recycling and clinical waste to secure document destruction and hazardous chemicals. Waste disposal authorities use Lots 6a and 6b, and Lot 7 suits buyers wanting a single contractor for all streams. Consultancy covers net-zero action plans, grant funding support and environmental impact assessments.

Who Can Apply

Waste contractors, specialist handlers and environmental consultancies with Environment Agency permits, duty-of-care compliance and public sector clients. Applications for this framework are closed, so new suppliers cannot join until KCS re-tenders it, likely around 9 April 2029. Until then, work goes to the firms already appointed to each lot.

Buyer Benefits

Public bodies must handle waste lawfully, so they value suppliers already checked for permits and duty of care. Specialist lots for clinical, confidential and hazardous waste reduce risk, while the total waste lot simplifies contract management, and consultancy helps them plan for net zero.

Next Steps

Appointed suppliers should target buyers with waste contracts ending, showing recycling rates, carbon reporting and compliance. Others can explore sub-contracting with appointed suppliers and should keep permits, accreditations and public sector references current for the re-tender expected before 9 April 2029. Track the KCS framework page for any change to the timetable.

How Athena Can Help

Waste call-offs are often decided on compliance, recycling performance and price. Athena's bid writing for environmental services presents these clearly, with competitor scoring and pricing for multi-stream contracts.

For firms not yet appointed, our public sector bid targeting helps you choose lots for KCS's next re-tender, and our waste framework applications service finds other waste and recycling routes open now, with each application compliance-checked. We can also prepare permits, policies and case studies so each submission is complete first time.
