Framework Description
The Japanese Knotweed Services Framework from the National Framework Partnership (NFP) gives public sector clients access to pre-qualified invasive species specialists. It runs for four years, from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2029, in NFP's Environmental & Energy category. Clients award work by direct selection or mini-competition. There is no Dynamic Purchasing System element, so the appointee list stays fixed.
Context & Use Case
Public sector landowners and landlords use it when Japanese knotweed or other invasive non-native plants appear on their land or development sites. Typical call-offs start with a survey and identification, followed by a treatment or eradication programme and monitoring until the site is clear, which helps the client meet its duties under UK environmental legislation.

Who Can Apply
Suits specialist invasive species contractors with professional accreditations. The appointed suppliers listed are Cleanscapes Limited and Japanese Knotweed Limited. Other firms cannot join until the framework is re-tendered, likely around October 2029.
Buyer Benefits
Knotweed can delay developments, damage property and affect land values, so clients want a specialist on site quickly with a credible treatment plan. With a small pool of appointees, buyers can move from survey to treatment fast, and the training element helps their own staff recognise invasive species early.
Next Steps
The two appointees should present multi-year treatment and monitoring plans that make direct selection the obvious choice. Other specialists should note the 31 October 2029 end date, win knotweed work through open council and housing tenders meanwhile, and watch the NFP framework page for the re-tender.
How Athena Can Help
For the appointed specialists, Athena's bid management service can build win themes around treatment success rates and monitoring, and help price multi-year programmes competitively.
For other invasive species contractors, the route in is open tenders now and the 2029 re-tender later. Our public sector bidding team helps you win that interim work and build evidence, and our framework registration support plans and writes your application when NFP re-procures, with a compliance check before it goes in.
