Framework Description
The Orthorectification Service Framework is a Natural Resources Wales (NRW) single-lot framework for validating and correcting tree species data across the Welsh Government Woodland Estate (WGWE). Listed in NRW's procurement pipeline, it has a planned four-year term to 31 May 2030, with an option to extend by 12 months to 31 May 2031.
Context & Use Case
NRW manages the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and needs accurate tree species data for forest management decisions. Around 13 forest area plans are to be validated each year, with the full estate covered over five years. Work involves orthophoto processing, GIS analysis and ground checking, with corrections fed into the Forester Web system.
Scope of Services
Orthophoto processing and correction Tree species data validation GIS mapping and analysis Ground survey and verification Data error correction and Forester Web updates Reporting and quality assurance
Lots
Single lot
Who Can Apply
Suits GIS, remote sensing and survey firms with orthorectification expertise, ideally with forestry data experience and familiarity with the Forester Web system. Check NRW's upcoming contracts and procurement pipeline page for the current stage before planning a bid.
Buyer Benefits
Better species data supports better forest management, so NRW wants consistent, specialist validation over several years. A multi-year framework gives it a steady programme of about 13 forest area plans a year, delivered by a supplier familiar with its systems.
Next Steps
Check NRW's upcoming contracts and procurement pipeline page for the current status of this procurement. Prepare evidence of orthorectification, GIS and woodland data validation work, and be ready to show you can handle around 13 forest area plans a year.
How Athena Can Help
Specialist GIS frameworks are often won on method and evidence. Athena's technical bid writing can present your orthorectification process, ground-truthing approach and quality checks as clear answers to the scoring criteria, and price the annual programme realistically.
Our framework tracking and application support keeps you on top of NRW's pipeline and prepares the selection documents, and our public sector bid/no-bid tools help you decide whether this and similar mapping tenders are worth pursuing.
