Framework Description
NRS runs this DPS to buy metrology instruments for nuclear decommissioning, replacing old and outdated equipment across its sites. Lot 1 covers portable instruments such as radiation monitors, contamination ratemeters, air samplers, tritium monitors and personal dosimeters. Lot 2 covers installed instruments such as contamination frisker probes, gamma monitors and liquid scintillation counters. The DPS is live until 23 February 2029.
Context & Use Case
NRS decommissions 13 nuclear sites, including Dounreay, and one hydro-electric site, many in sparsely populated areas, and is preparing to take on seven advanced gas-cooled reactor sites from EDF. Radiation and contamination monitoring runs through all of that work. Admitted suppliers are invited to bid for specific orders through the Atamis system, with contracts on NEC4 terms.
Scope of Services
Lot 1: Portable Instruments (radiation monitors, contamination ratemeters, air samplers, tritium monitors, personal dosimeters) Lot 2: Installed Instruments (contamination frisker probes, gamma monitors, liquid scintillation counters) Instrument lists are not exhaustive and may change
Lots
Lot 1 - Portable Instruments (including Portable Radiation Monitors, Contamination Ratemeters, Air Samplers, Tritium Monitors, Personal Dosimeters); Lot 2 - Installed Instruments (including Contamination Frisker Probes, Gamma Monitors, Liquid Scintillation Counters)
Who Can Apply
Manufacturers and distributors of radiation and contamination monitoring equipment suited to nuclear sites. As a live DPS, it accepts applications throughout its term, and you can apply for portable, installed or both lots. Unsuccessful applicants receive feedback and can improve and reapply.
Buyer Benefits
NRS can buy instruments as needs arise, competing each order among suppliers it has already qualified rather than tendering every purchase. Separating portable and installed equipment lets it reach specialists in each, and NEC4 terms give consistent conditions across orders and sites.
Next Steps
Register on the NDA's Atamis portal and complete the Selection Questionnaire for your chosen lot or lots, using Find a Tender notice 024138-2024 for reference. Gather product specifications, calibration and certification records, and examples of supply to nuclear or other radiological users. Once admitted, check Atamis for invitations to bid until the DPS closes on 23 February 2029.
How Athena Can Help
The Selection Questionnaire is your gateway to NRS's instrument orders. Athena can complete it, prepare supporting evidence and compliance-check it before submission through our help with DPS applications.
Once admitted, each order is a mini-tender on NEC4 terms. Our bid management consultants can write technical responses and price against likely competitors, and our advice on public sector tenders helps you judge which orders to prioritise across NRS sites and which to let pass.
