Occupational Health Services (OHS) (SPS-02193)

Live

Framework Description

Occupational Health Services (SPS-02193) is a central government framework, run through Scottish Prison Service procurement, for occupational health support to Scottish public bodies. It covers case referrals, medicals, ill health retirement assessments, health surveillance and a range of non-core services. It runs from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2029. This framework is used by Scottish Government and APUC.

Context & Use Case

Scottish Ministers and agencies such as the Scottish Prison Service, non-departmental public bodies, non-ministerial departments, tribunals, commissioners and other central government bodies use it. HR teams refer employees for assessments, case conferences and pre-employment checks, and add services such as health surveillance or vaccinations as and when their workforce needs them.

Scope of Services

Case referrals and case conferences Pre-employment referrals and full medicals Ill health retirement and injury benefit assessments Statutory and non-statutory health surveillance Health and lifestyle screening, immunisation and vaccination Workplace assessments and specialist medicals Onsite services, home visits and health promotion

Who Can Apply

It suits occupational health providers with clinicians able to cover public sector sites across Scotland. Applications are closed until it is re-tendered, likely to be around 31 March 2029, so providers not appointed should plan ahead or look for subcontract roles with the appointed provider.

Buyer Benefits

Buyers use it to reduce and prevent sickness absence, stay legally compliant and get medical advice that supports fair HR decisions, including on ill health retirement. Core and non-core services mean a small body can buy referrals only, while a large agency can add health surveillance and onsite services.

Next Steps

With the framework running to 31 March 2029, providers outside it have time to build a case: gather evidence on referral turnaround, clinical governance, coverage across Scotland and absence outcomes. Watch for Scottish Prison Service procurement notices nearer the end date, and look for standalone occupational health tenders from health boards and councils.

How Athena Can Help

Occupational health tenders are scored heavily on clinical governance and turnaround times. Athena's bid review and rewrite service checks your evidence against the scoring criteria and strengthens weak answers before submission.

For the 2029 re-tender, our pipeline planning for frameworks sets out what to prepare and when, and our health services bid advice covers the standalone tenders that build your record, starting with whether each one is worth the time and cost.
