Electronic Research and Laboratory Notebook

Live

Framework Description

SUPC's Electronic Research and Laboratory Notebook framework gives member universities a route to electronic lab notebook (ELN) platforms that replace paper records in research. It is a single-lot agreement covering the software, integration with laboratory instruments and LIMS, data management and collaboration features, and implementation and training. It runs until 10 November 2027 with no extension.

Context & Use Case

Research offices, research data teams and science faculties use it when moving laboratories from paper notebooks to digital records, or replacing an ELN that no longer meets their data management needs. Rollouts often start with a few research groups before extending across the institution, so implementation, training and instrument integration decide whether researchers adopt the system.

Who Can Apply

Suits ELN software vendors and their implementation partners with research sector customers. Applications for this framework are closed, so vendors outside it will need to wait for the re-tender, which should come around 10 November 2027, about a year away.

Buyer Benefits

An ELN changes how researchers record and share their work, so universities want platforms already assessed on function and terms. Integration with instruments and LIMS cuts manual data entry, collaboration features support multi-site projects, and implementation in scope gives one supplier responsibility for getting researchers using it.

Next Steps

Appointed vendors should build case studies of research group adoption and data integration, and be ready for mini-competitions. Others have about a year before 10 November 2027: document integrations with common lab instruments and LIMS, data security and compliance evidence, and university references. Track SUPC's framework page for the successor.

How Athena Can Help

Research software bids hinge on adoption and data security answers. Athena's software bid writers turn your implementation record into evidence-backed responses, and our F.V.D. model sorts must-have features from the real differentiators evaluators reward.

With a year to go, Athena's framework planning and applications map the re-tender alongside other research technology frameworks, and our support with university tenders covers direct ELN procurements in the meantime, from the first approach to award.
