Framework Description
SUPC's Food Waste Management framework gives member universities access to suppliers that collect and process food waste and help reduce it. It is a single-lot agreement covering food waste collection, composting and anaerobic digestion, waste monitoring and reporting, and reduction consultancy. It runs until 28 February 2029 with no extension, so it has more than two years to run.
Context & Use Case
Catering and sustainability teams use it to set up separate food waste collections from kitchens, cafés and residences, send waste to composting or anaerobic digestion rather than landfill, and measure how much is thrown away. Reduction consultancy helps them cut waste at source, and the reporting supports sustainability and carbon commitments.

Who Can Apply
Suits food waste collectors, composting and anaerobic digestion operators, and waste reduction consultancies with the appropriate waste licences. Applications for this framework are closed, so others must wait for the re-tender, likely around 28 February 2029.
Buyer Benefits
Universities can arrange compliant collections quickly with suppliers already checked for licences and capacity, and get data to report food waste and its carbon impact. Combining collection with reduction advice means a supplier is paid to help cut waste as well as remove it, which suits institutions with net zero targets.
Next Steps
Appointed suppliers should offer regular waste data and reduction reviews to win more sites across member institutions. Others should pursue direct university and wider public sector waste tenders now, and prepare for the 28 February 2029 re-tender with licences, processing capacity, collection coverage and carbon reporting evidence.
How Athena Can Help
Food waste bids are increasingly scored on environmental outcomes as well as cost. Athena's help with quality and price sets out your diversion and carbon results in clear answers, with collection rates that still win against larger waste firms.
With applications for this framework closed until 2029, our framework identification for waste firms finds environmental frameworks open now, and Athena's social value and bid advice strengthens direct tenders to universities, councils and other public bodies.
