IT Equipment Reuse, Recycling & Disposal

Live

Framework Description

SUPC's IT Equipment Reuse, Recycling & Disposal framework covers what happens to university IT at end of life: secure disposal and data destruction, refurbishment for reuse, WEEE-compliant component recycling, and the reporting and audit trail behind it. It is a single-lot agreement, closed to new applications, running until 14 June 2027, with no extension option.

Context & Use Case

IT services departments use it at hardware refresh time, when hundreds of laptops, desktops, servers and network devices must leave campus with data destroyed and the waste handled lawfully. Many universities also want equipment reused or donated where possible to support their sustainability targets. Supplier reports then feed the university's asset registers and environmental reporting.

Secure IT asset disposal and data destruction Equipment reuse and refurbishment Component recycling and WEEE compliance Associated reporting and audit trail

Who Can Apply

Suits IT asset disposition firms, refurbishers and licensed WEEE recyclers with certified data sanitisation. Applications for this framework are closed, so firms not appointed will need to bid at the re-tender, likely around June 2027.

Buyer Benefits

A data breach from a discarded drive is a serious risk for any university, and so is unlawful waste handling. Buying through this framework gives IT and estates teams certified data destruction, documented chains of custody and reuse reporting they can feed into carbon and waste figures, from suppliers already vetted.

Next Steps

Prepare now for the re-tender ahead of 14 June 2027. Check SUPC's framework page regularly for the re-tender notice, and pull together data sanitisation certifications, waste carrier and treatment permits, sample asset reports and figures on reuse rates from current customers.

How Athena Can Help

IT disposal bids are scored on security and environmental evidence. Athena can run a Bid Health Check on your draft to find weak spots in your data destruction and audit trail answers, and help write social value and reuse commitments that score.

Our framework registration experts collect the permits, policies and case studies the selection stage asks for, and our public sector bid pricing covers pricing models where resale value offsets disposal charges.
