Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru

Trydan Environmental Baseline Framework

Coming soon

Framework Description

Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru (Trydan) is procuring a two-lot framework, estimated at £1.75 million, for environmental baseline surveys on its large-scale wind farm developments in Wales. Lot 1 covers ornithological surveys and Lot 2 covers habitat classification, soils and peat surveys, each with reporting. Trydan intends to appoint up to three contractors per lot, and the framework is expected to run from 21 July 2026 to 20 July 2030.

Context & Use Case

Wind farm consent applications depend on sound baseline evidence about birds, habitats, soils and peat on and around each site. Trydan will use the framework to commission that survey and reporting work for its development pipeline, choosing between the appointed contractors in each lot. With a cap of three contractors per lot, competition for places will be tight, but those appointed will compete with only two rivals for each survey package.

Scope of Services

Lot 1: Baseline ornithological surveys and reporting Lot 2: Baseline habitat classification, soils and peat surveys and reporting

Lots

Yes: Lot 1 - Baseline Ornithological Surveys and Reporting; Lot 2 - Baseline Habitat Classification, Soils, and Peat Surveys and Reporting

Who Can Apply

Suits ecological consultancies, ornithologists and soil and peat specialists with onshore wind or upland survey experience. Tenders closed on 9 June 2026 under an open procedure, so firms that did not bid cannot join; the next opportunity is the re-tender, likely around July 2030.

Buyer Benefits

Trydan gets a small, checked pool of survey specialists who can be mobilised in time for seasonal survey windows, which helps keep consent programmes on track. Keeping the pool to three per lot gives appointed firms enough work to commit staff, and gives Trydan consistent survey methods and reporting across its sites.

Next Steps

Bidders should watch for Trydan's award decision, estimated for 8 July 2026, and if appointed plan how to resource survey seasons across several Welsh sites. Others should build wind farm baseline case studies, surveyor qualifications, species licences and examples of reports that supported consent applications, and look for subcontract survey work with the appointed firms.

How Athena Can Help

With up to three firms per lot, appointed consultancies compete with few rivals for each survey package, so every proposal counts. Athena's bid writing and scoring support shapes win themes around your upland survey record and runs a Bid Health Check before you submit.

If you missed this round, our renewables framework pipeline lines up other environmental survey frameworks in Wales and beyond, and our bid/no-bid advice for consultancies helps you choose which to enter.
