Framework Description
The UK Atomic Energy Authority's Electricians Framework gives UKAEA a route to electrical contractors for new installations, refurbishment and maintenance across its facilities, complementing its existing electrical arrangements. It is a single-lot framework, closed to new applications, with several suppliers, estimated at £2 million excluding VAT. The estimated term runs from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2028, with two optional one-year extensions to 31 October 2030.
Context & Use Case
UKAEA regularly needs new electrical installations, upgrades to existing buildings and ongoing property maintenance, both for its own operations and for the tenants on its sites. Contractors working there must handle research facilities with specialist equipment and strict safety rules, and the framework lets UKAEA's estates team place this work with contractors already assessed for those conditions.
Scope of Services

Who Can Apply
Suits electrical contractors, including SMEs, used to complex, safety-critical sites such as laboratories or large industrial facilities. Tenders closed on 30 July 2026, so contractors that did not bid cannot join; the next chance is the re-tender, likely ahead of 31 October 2028 or, if extended, 2030.
Buyer Benefits
UKAEA needs electricians who can work safely around specialist equipment without disrupting research or tenants. Pre-assessed contractors reduce that risk, and having extra contractors alongside existing arrangements gives the estates team capacity and resilience when several projects or breakdowns arrive at once.
Next Steps
Appointed contractors should make sure UKAEA has current competence cards, insurance and safety records, and respond quickly to work packages. Others should build references from research, nuclear or laboratory sites, note the 31 October 2028 end date, and watch EU-Supply and Find a Tender for UKAEA's next electrical procurement.
How Athena Can Help
For appointed electricians, Athena's work package bid support can turn each UKAEA request into a clear method statement and price, showing safe working around research equipment.
If you missed this round, our framework identification service can find other open electrical contractor frameworks in science and public estates, and our help winning public contracts prepares your safety and quality evidence for UKAEA's next procurement. We also check the evidence is compliant before it goes in.
