Early Years Furniture - 1188

Live

Framework Description

YPO's Early Years Furniture framework (reference 1188) gives public bodies a route to buy furniture for early years settings. It has two lots, split by construction: solid wood and MDF. Each lot has one supplier, so buyers have a choice of provider, price point and specification. It runs until 1 June 2027, with an option to extend by two years to 1 June 2029.

Context & Use Case

Nurseries, school early years classes, children's centres and councils fitting out early education settings use it. Buyers choose between the solid wood and MDF lots according to the price point and specification they need, then buy from the supplier appointed to that lot.

Scope of Services

Lot 1: Early years furniture in solid wood construction Lot 2: Early years furniture in MDF construction

Lots

Lot 1 - Early years furniture – Solid wood construction; Lot 2 - Early years furniture – MDF construction

Who Can Apply

Manufacturers and suppliers of early years furniture. Applications for this framework are closed, with one supplier on each lot, so other firms cannot join. Expect the re-tender around 1 June 2027, unless YPO takes the two-year extension to 2029.

Buyer Benefits

With one supplier per lot, ordering is simple: buyers pick the material and budget that suits them and order directly, without a competition. Offering both solid wood and MDF gives nurseries and schools a premium option and a lower-cost option on the same framework.

Next Steps

Check the YPO 1188 page for news on the extension. If YPO extends, the re-tender may not come until 2029; if not, expect it around mid-2027. Prepare product ranges in your chosen material, safety and flammability test certificates, sustainability evidence and delivery and installation options for nurseries and schools.

How Athena Can Help

With one supplier per lot, the re-tender is winner-takes-all. Athena's bid strategy and competitor scoring work helps you understand what the current suppliers offer and build a bid that competes hard on quality and price.

Our furniture framework pipeline identifies other education furniture routes you could join sooner, so you are not waiting until 2027 or 2029. Our bid/no-bid support for manufacturers helps you decide whether to target the solid wood lot, the MDF lot, or both.
