Framework Description
YPO framework 1161, IT Hardware, Asset Recycling and Data Destruction (formerly titled Sustainable Hardware, Software and Technology Services), covers new and refurbished ICT hardware plus secure end-of-life services such as decommissioning, data sanitisation and media shredding. Applications for this framework agreement are closed. Its end date of 28 May 2028 already includes the 24-month extension, so no further extension is available.
Context & Use Case
Local authorities, education bodies, housing organisations, charities, central government, emergency services and NHS bodies use 1161 to refresh ICT estates and dispose of old kit securely. Buyers can make a direct award or run a further competition, and can combine lots in one competition, for example buying refurbished devices and recycling the equipment they replace.
Scope of Services
Lot 1: Supply of refurbished hardware Lot 2: Supply of new hardware Lot 3: IT asset recycling and destruction, including data sanitisation and media shredding
Lots
Lot 1 - Supply of Refurbished Hardware; Lot 2 - Supply of New Hardware; Lot 3 - IT Asset Recycling and Destruction
Who Can Apply
The framework suits ICT hardware resellers, refurbishers and IT asset disposal firms with secure data destruction capability. Applications are closed: suppliers not already appointed cannot join before it is re-tendered, which is likely to happen ahead of 28 May 2028. Appointed suppliers compete for direct awards and further competitions.
Buyer Benefits
Buyers can meet sustainability goals by choosing refurbished equipment through Lot 1 while still buying new kit where needed. Combining hardware supply with secure data destruction in a single competition reduces the number of contracts to manage and deals with the data security risk when old equipment is disposed of.
Next Steps
If you are on 1161, respond to every further competition in your lots and look out for combined-lot requirements. If you are not, use the time before 28 May 2028 to build public sector case studies, data destruction credentials and sustainability evidence, and watch YPO's framework pages for the replacement. YPO's page is at https://www.ypo.co.uk/frameworks-home/900629.
How Athena Can Help
For suppliers already appointed to 1161, Athena's bid management team can help win further competitions, particularly combined-lot requirements, with win themes on refurbished supply and secure disposal, scoring against likely competitors and pricing that holds margin.
If you missed this round, we can plan for the replacement: our framework registrations team builds a pipeline plan and prepares case studies, policies and certificates ahead of the re-tender, and our public sector tender support covers social value and compliant submissions.
