Framework Description
YPO's Network Connectivity and Telecommunication Solutions framework (1229) covers WAN and LAN services, education connectivity, smart cities and IoT, cyber security, communication services, and mobile, voice and data across seven lots. It replaced framework 976. Applications for this framework are closed, and it runs until 17 March 2027, with an option to extend by two 12-month periods to 17 March 2029.
Context & Use Case
Central government, charities, housing providers, schools and colleges, emergency services, local authorities and NHS bodies use 1229 for connectivity contracts, from linking sites across a wide area network to equipping school networks or deploying IoT sensors. YPO developed the framework with input from both public sector customers and suppliers, and buyers call off within the lot that matches their requirement.
Scope of Services
Lot 1: Wide area network (WAN) services Lot 2: Local area network (LAN) services Lot 3: Education connectivity and associated services Lot 4: Smart cities and IoT Lot 5: Cyber security solutions Lot 6: Communication services Lot 7: Mobile, voice and data
Lots
Lot 1 - Wide Area Network (WAN) Services; Lot 2 - Local Area Network (LAN) Services; Lot 3 - Education Connectivity & Associated Services; Lot 4 - Smart Cities and IOT; Lot 5 - Cyber Security Solutions; Lot 6 - Communication Services; Lot 7 - Mobile, Voice and Data
Who Can Apply
Network service providers, telecoms carriers, mobile and unified communications resellers, IoT integrators and cyber security firms fit the seven lots. As applications are closed, it cannot be joined during its term. The next chance is the re-tender, which could come around 17 March 2027 or as late as 2029 if YPO uses both extensions.
Buyer Benefits
Connectivity failures stop frontline services, so buyers want proven providers and contracts they can set up without a long tender. Separate lots for education connectivity, IoT and cyber security let schools or smart city teams go straight to specialists, and having security on the same framework lets a buyer protect the network it is buying.
Next Steps
Appointed suppliers should prepare for call-offs in their lots, with evidence of service levels, security accreditations and migration plans. Others should watch YPO's page (https://www.ypo.co.uk/frameworks-home/900649) for the extension decision, which sets the re-tender date, and use the time to build public sector references in the lots they would target.
How Athena Can Help
Suppliers on 1229 face buyers comparing networks, prices and security side by side. Athena's bid writing and competitor analysis helps you compete for those call-offs by showing clearly how your service reduces risk and cost.
If you are not on it, the extension options make timing uncertain. Our framework entry planning keeps your evidence ready for a 2027 or 2029 re-tender, and our tender advice for public contracts helps you bid for standalone connectivity work in the meantime.
